Phil Says “Six More Weeks of Winter!”

February 3rd, 2009 Ben No comments

Phil’s official forecast as read February 2nd, 2009 at sunrise at Gobbler’s Knob:

Hear Ye Hear Ye

On Gobbler’s Knob this glorious Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2009

Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators

Awoke to the call of President Bill Cooper

And greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths

After casting a joyful eye towards thousands of his faithful followers,

Phil proclaimed that his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers were World Champions one more time

And a bright sky above me

Showed my shadow beside me.

So 6 more weeks of winter it will be.

Man, these people get juiced over this. Head on over to the official page and check out the photos. This guy is my favorite.

Flava ain't got nuthin' on this playa!!!

Flava ain't got nuthin' on this playa!!!

So enjoy the rest of the winter, all 6 more weeks of it, thanks to a groundhog.

Labor day plans?

August 29th, 2008 Ben No comments

Well since my Tivo no longer picks up channels beyond 32 I have to have Comcast come back out and fiddle with some diggery-do or some mess. They’ve been trying to fix it for the past 2 days and can’t seem to figure it out. So basically on Sunday I get to sit around that morning waiting on them to show up. Yay for waiting on people.

So that’s my plan for Sunday. Once they are gone, I’ll probably head to the Decatur Book fest. I’d like to see some of the cooking demonstrations, that and I got a few friends that are heading out. Offer still stands for anyone that wants to meet up. Just gimmie a holler.

That’s all I had. Well some jack-ass just drove by in their big ass lawn equipment truck and smashed my mailbox. Luckily I was able to fix it, otherwise it would’ve been one more thing on the list of things to fix around this place. Yay for home ownership!

The Third Annual AJC Decatur Book Festival

August 27th, 2008 Ben 1 comment

I was thinking of heading in town for the Decatur Book Festival this weekend. They’ve got cooking demo’s and other stuff that sounds pretty cool. Anyone else interested? If so lemme know and we can team up so the parking won’t be so bad. That and I can think of a few people that need MORE books. :P

Labor Day plans (?)

August 25th, 2008 Ben 1 comment

I live in the middle of nowhere. Everyone else lives on the edge of something. Despite these two facts, I’d still like to have some people over this Sunday (not Labor day) for some hanging out. As of right this moment the weather looks ify. By ify I mean that rain is in the forecast but it’s Georgia so that could change any day.

Bases on feedback received I’ll post as to whether or not the thing is still on or not. Same deal as previous plans that didn’t happen. Show up at sometime between noon and 3ish, hang out, have beer or water, or wine, or liquor, or whatever, play cards, eat food, laugh, enjoy yourself and admire how the air out in Nowheresville is just a little bit sweeter and the stars are just a tad brighter.

Let me know by Wednesday (of this week) if your interested.

Potential general gathering of peoples

August 6th, 2008 Ben 4 comments

It’s been a while since I’ve had any sort of get-together at my place and I was thinking of having a general hang-out session next weekend (08/16 or 08/17).

So here’s the plan:

  • People show up early/late afternoon
  • There will be food of random sorts
  • There will be drinks (alcohol and non-alcohol)
  • There will be music, tv, Rock Band, cards, dinosaurs, go-karts, kiddie pools, trampolines, and a jello/mud pit
  • Standard party on-goings are welcome
  • Stay as late as you want, leave as early as you want

That’s about it really. So is anyone interested? I’m thinking for recovery purposes Saturday would be best. Judging on the interest I’ll post again if this is a go. As of now, assume that it is.

Take me out to the ball game…

July 18th, 2008 Ben 1 comment

Tonight I hit up the braves game with Neal, Sean, Valerie, Lacy, and Brad. It was the first time I’d been to a braves game in years. Had a great time. It was good to just chillax with some friends.

Anyway, here’s some pics.

If you can read this, you are hereby invited to the best floating trip of the century–that’s right, Floatilla! The trip will take place on Saturday, July 26 at 9:00 a.m. Cost is $65–before you gasp, please know that this fee includes free beer, dinner, and some sporting activity at the float’s conclusion. Not only is it a bargain, but it is a super-dooper fun one!

To sign up, click the above link, or wander on over to the evite and do it that way. Ignore the “pay by” date (July 15 and July 16)–there are still spots available, and we need more rafting buddies! You can pay as soon as possible, and we will still welcome you with open arms (and your very own cup for the kegs).

But don’t just take my word for it–just take a look at these testimonials!

goaticusmaximus writes:
“This isn’t a corporate-sponsored gig, or some business event. Just a group of friends that put together a floating party on an annual basis. (think: Mardi Gras in a raft, but without the frat-tards)”

scienceiscool states:
“On this festive and boisterous occasion, numerous inflatable rafts will be lashed together in a great phalanx of river-going kegs, water cannons, and likely nudity.”

Come on! What better way to spend a summer day in Georgia? Sign up now! :D

Official Rock Band 2 Track List

July 14th, 2008 Ben No comments

Originally posted here: Official Rock Band 2 Track List (Plus Carry Over “Most” of Rock Band’s Disc Tracks!) [Rock Band 2]

Harmonix has officially unveiled the track list for Rock Band 2. Besides being packed with rock gods like AC/DC exclusively, GNR’s Chinese Democracy’s official debut, Alice in Chains and Rage Against the Machine (I’m a child of the 90’s), and full backwards compatibility with all DLC songs, you can “export most of the Rock Band disc tracks and upgrade them into Rock Band 2 gameplay,” giving real teeth to EA’s claim that it’s the “largest music catalogue” of any music game ever. One disc, all your songs, truly amazing—thanks for not screwing gamers, Harmonix. Every track and all the details below.

HARMONIX AND MTV GAMES UNVEIL SETLIST FOR ROCK BANDTM2 – THE ULTIMATE MUSIC GAME

Game to Feature Unrivaled Blend of Classic, Developing and New Artists

Rock Band Platform to Encompass More Than 500 Songs by End of 2008

Los Angeles, Calif. – July 14, 2008 – Harmonix, the world’s premier music video game company, and MTV Games, a division of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), along with marketing and distribution partner Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), today revealed at the 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit the song set list for Rock Band™ 2, the next evolution of the groundbreaking Rock Band music platform. The Rock Band 2 soundtrack will feature over 100 songs with over 80 songs on disc plus an additional 20 bonus tracks which will be made available for free download this fall. This builds upon the unparalleled depth and diversity of Rock Band’s original set list and its ever-expanding library of downloadable tracks. Comprised entirely of master recordings from some of rock’s most prolific and untouchable artists, including AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Bob Dylan, Metallica, Pearl Jam and more, Rock Band 2 will deliver the most impressive and largest music catalogue of any music-based videogame ever.

  • After 14 years since Guns N’ Roses last official music release, Axl Rose selects Rock Band 2 to debut official new track “Shackler’s Revenge” from the highly-anticipated album Chinese Democracy.
  • Rock Band 2 is the first and only video game to feature the music of AC/DC. It includes their epic rock anthem, “Let There Be Rock.”
  • For the first time ever, music from American music icon, Bob Dylan, is featured in a video game with “Tangled Up In Blue.”
  • Rock Band 2 will feature backwards compatibility with all Rock Band downloadable music content released to date.
  • Owners of the original Rock Band will have the ability to export most of the Rock Band disc tracks and upgrade them into Rock Band 2 gameplay-the first time ever in videogame history! [1]
  • With ongoing weekly DLC releases including individual tracks, track packs and full albums, the Rock Band music library will feature more than 500 songs by year’s end!

“With Rock Band, Harmonix and MTV Games set out to create a powerful music platform for music fans, their friends and families to discover music in a way unlike ever before,” said Paul DeGooyer, SVP Electronic Games and Music, MTV. “We are honored that such legendary artists as AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Bob Dylan and more have chosen Rock Band 2 as a new platform for fans to experience their music. Epic Fail because I don’t follow politics

July 9th, 2008 Ben No comments

So I was at lunch today and Scott was like “oh, hey Barack was in Powder Springs yesterday wasn’t he?” I was like there’s no fuckin’ way that Barack was in P. Town yesterday. But Scott assured me that he was. So when i got back to my desk I looked it up and sure enough he was. Not only was he in Powder Springs, but he was at McEachern. WHAT. THE. FUCK. That’s MY highschool, that a potential next president was speaking at!! I mean! SHIT! I would’ve droped everything and rushed home for that. Granted I don’t follow politics that much, but it’s not every day that something like this happens, esp. not this close to home. 3 f’n miles worth of close!

Damn I’m kinda pissed now.

Anyway, enjoy the video that someone filmed…IN POWDER FRICKIN’ SPRINGS!!!!
