Bagels can only improve by toasting them

So why do some places not offer this service? Take Starbucks for example. They offer bagels, but don’t offer them toasted. In fact most of their pastries are cold or room temperature at best.  Would it kill them to go that extra mile? Hell, it’s not even a mile. It’s like 5 steps to the damn toaster so they push a lever then fill a cup with over priced coffee.

This post wasn’t originally directed at Starbucks, and for the most part it’s not. Basically today one of our recruiters brought in some bagels as a nice gesture. Standard bagel assortment from Panera. Granted they were all pre-sliced, but none of them were toasted. It wouldn’t have been a problem if there had been some sort of toasting apparatus at the office. So now I have an untoasted bagel with cream cheese. It just doesn’t taste as good.

mmmmmmmm, TOASTY!

Also, this rule applies to other things. Any sandwich will usually be improved by toasting/grilling/heating it. I mean, you could have a cheese sandwich, but wouldn’t you rather have a GRILLED cheese sandwich? The act of toasting something generally makes it fill me up more. A cold food item won’t fill me up as much as something warm. Does that have the same affect on anyone else?

TOASTY!

TOASTY!

There are times however when I just want a sandwich un-toasted. Take Subway for example. I like there subs better when they aren’t toasted. What’s up with that? I mean Quiznos toasts their subs and they get better. That’s craziness. I guess it depends on the toppin’s and if there’s a sauce.

This post kinda took on a life of it’s own. I really was just complaining about how I wish places would offer toasted bagels. But now it’s deep into how there’s a distinct difference between something that is heated vs. something that is not. Oh well. It’s really all up to personal preference.

So in closing, toast my bagels dammit!
